Several youths from Pangasinan undergo training that will help them learn about hazards and how to prepare when disaster strikes.

Facilitated by Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction officers from Pangasinan and World Vision staff. The two days training of the “Youth Responders” include the basic of first aid treatment, rescue and water search. “We need to familiarize the youth on the basic of rescue to ensure their safety. The drills are only basic because real rescue should be left to authorities,” Carol Cabading, World Vision’s Disaster Risk Reduction Specialist for Luzon, said.

As an organization that does relief operations in times of major disaster, World Vision ensures that families, especially children, are ready and safe. “This training would instill among these youth that despite being children/youth, they can still do something to help others in an emergency,” Cabading added.

Jhoanna, 13, said that she’s happy about what she have learned, “What I learned from this training is how to give first aid treatment to a victim and how to do CPR( Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation). I am happy that I learned a lot that I may possibly apply when an accident happens.

Another youth responder, Werrol, 15, said that “This training reminded about being a responsible youth and being a gentle first aider“.
